Moon Township, Pa. (March 7, 2010)-Robert Morris pulled away from Mount St. Mary's for an 80-62 win in the Northeast Conference semifinals on Sunday night at the Sewall Center. The Colonials used a 13-0 run to take control of the game midway through the second half. Mount St. Mary's saw its 11-game win streak snapped with the loss.
The Mount's Raven Barber converted a lay-up to cut the Robert Morris (22-11) lead to 51-48 with 16:35 left in the game. Robert Morris, however, scored the next 13 points while holding the Mountaineers scoreless over a span of 7:38 to take a commanding 64-48 advantage.
From there, the Colonials were able to hold off the Mount (16-15) and secure the win.
Senior Jeremy Goode paced the Mount with 20 points and three assists while Shawn Atupem chipped in 12 points and four rebounds. Senior Kelly Beidler added nine points and seven bards while fellow senior Will Holland added five points.
The Mount shot just 5-of-22 (.227) from the field in the second half and 34.7 percent in the game.
Robert Morris had four players reach double figures with Karon Abraham leading the way with 19 points. Rob Robinson added 14 points and five rebounds for Robert Morris, which shot 53.7 percent in the contest.
In a high-scoring first half, Robert Morris took a 47-40 halftime lead. The Colonials jumped out in front early, taking a 15-5 lead 5:50 into the game. Mount St. Mary's was able to cut into the margin, tying the score at 24-24 on a Goode basket with 8:19 on the clock.
Robert Morris regained control with an 8-2 run that was capped by a pair of Gary Wallace free throws. The Mount's Danny Thompson converted a tradition three-point play with 1:24 left in the opening half to cut the Robert Morris lead to 43-40, but the Colonials closed the half with a Dallas Green follow-up dunk and a pair of Abraham free throws.
Robert Morris shot 50.0 percent (15-of-30) from the floor in the opening half while committing just one turnover. The Mount recovered from a 1-for-9 shooting start in the game to finish the half 12-of-27 (44.4 percent). Mount St. Mary's had just two turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
