Emmitsburg, Md. (April 17, 2010)--Junior Shane Eyler went 4-for-8 with two home runs and six RBI to lead Mount St. Mary's to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Bryant on Saturday afternoon at Straw Family Stadium on campus.  Mount St. Mary's won the opening game, 8-2, before rallying for an 8-4 win in the second game.

In the opener, the Mount (14-17, 9-5 NEC) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Zach Helman and Jacob Darr posted back-to-back one-out singles.  The runners moved up on a double steal and both scored when Eyler laced a two-out single up the middle.

The Mount added a run in the bottom of the second when Alex Andrews doubled and came around to score on a Helman base hit.  Bryant (13-18, 5-5 NEC) got back in the game with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but the Mount responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame.  With two outs and no one on base, Andrew Caron was hit by a pitch and Josh Winter walked.  Andrews reached on an error to load the bases and Michael Foster followed with a walk to force home Caron.  Tommy Flynn followed and struck out, but the pitch was wild and Flynn reached first with Winter scoring on th play.

The Mount sealed the win with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Helman singled to open the frame and scored when Eyler belted an opposite field home run for a 7-2 lead.  Caron followed with a solo shot to round out the scoring in the game.

Eyler was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI while Helman was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.  On the mound, Brady Feigl had a tremendous start, posting a complete-game victory with 10 strikeouts.

Jordan English went 2-for-4 at the plate to pace Bryant in the opener.  Eric Polvani took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

In the second game, the Mount rallied from a 4-0 first-inning deficit to post an 8-4 win.  The Bulldogs struck for four runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead.

English was hit by a pitch, Jeff Vigurs singled and Nick Campbell hit a three-run homer to right to give Bryant a 3-0 advantage.  Zakary Cianciolo doubled and came home to score on a Tim Norton single for the fourth-run of the frame.

The Mount answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning when Kyle Kane singled and Eyler followed with his second homer of the day.

The Mount took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Eyler singled with one out to start the rally.  Caron walked and Josh Winter doubled to center to plate Eyler to cut the deficit to 4-3.  Foster then doubled down the right-field line to score Caron and Winter and give the Mountaineers the 5-4 advantage.

Mount St. Mary's sealed the win with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Caron and Winter singled to open the inning and Mark Quaranta followed with a bunt single to load the bases.  Foster hit a sacrifice fly to score Caron.  Darr added a two-run single to left for the final runs.

Mike Matta pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win for the Mount, allowing two hits and striking out one.  At the plate, Eyler was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI with Caron going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored.  Foster had three RBI in the game and Winter a pair of hits.

The teams will complete Friday's suspended game at 12:00 p.m. before playing the regularly scheduled nine-inning game.  Bryant holds a 4-0 lead in the top of the ninth in the suspended game.
