Charlottesville, Va. (April 29, 2008)--Senior first baseman Josh Vittek broke the Mount's all-time hit record in an 11-1 loss at No. 23 Virginia on Tuesday night at Davenport Field. Vittek finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double while freshman Tommy Flynn went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Mount (12-26) in the game.
Flynn led off the game with a double and came around to score on Vittek's two-run double in the first to stake the Mount to a 1-0 lead. The Cavaliers (33-15) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Jeremy Farrell's RBI double snapped a 1-1 tie in the inning. David Coleman's RBI ground out in the second made the score 3-1.
Virginia scored another run with a sacrifice fly in the third before taking control of the game with a four-run fourth.
Vittek's two hits give him 200 for his career, breaking the school's all-time hit mark of 198 set by Eric Smith last year. This is the second time this year that Vittek has set a school record against an ACC team. Earlier this season, Vittek became the Mount's all-time home run leader with a two-run shot at Maryland.
The Mount returns to action on Friday at Northeast Conference leader Monmouth in the first of a four-game series. The game is slated to start at 3 p.m.
