Men's Tennis to Face Morgan State and Monmouth This Weekend

Mount St. Mary's (11-6) vs. Morgan State (6-10)

Mount Update: The Mount won its fifth match in a row with a 4-3 victory over Loyola on Wednesday.  Mike Salomon and Matthew Blake provided the winning singles matches for the Mountaineers.  The Mountis 8-2 at home this season and has won the past four matches by identical 4-3 scores.

About the Bears:  Morgan State enters Saturday's match with a 6-10 record after a 6-1 loss to George Mason on Tuesday.  The Bears have lost four of their past five matches, but are 1-0 against NEC opponents with a 5-2 victory against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Feb. 27.

The All-Time Series with Morgan State:  Mount St. Mary's is 5-1 all-time against Morgan State in the series that dates back to the 1998-99 season.  Morgan State won the last matchup between the schools, 6-1, on April 9, 2009.

About the Hawks:  Monmouth lost to Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1, on Wednesday to fall to 5-11 on the season.  The Hawks are 1-3 this season against NEC opponents and will host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday before the match with the Mount on Sunday.

The All-Time Series with Monmouth:  The all-time series between the Mount and Monmouth is tied at 8-8.  The Hawks have won the past four meetings between the two schools.  The Mount's last win over Monmouth was  6-1 victory on April 2, 2006.

NEWS AND NOTES...

Salomon Earns Back-to-Back Rookie of the Week Awards:  Freshman Mike Salomon has won the NEC's Rookie of the Week Award in each of the past two weeks.  Playing at No. 2 singles, Salmon has won six matches in a row to improve to 16-7 on the season.  He has won a total of three NEC Rookie of the Week awards this season.

Mostowtt Moving Up Career Singles List...Senior Thad Mostowtt has moved into a tie for seventh place on the Mount's all-time singles wins list.  Mostowtt is 44-42 in his career at the Mount, moving him into a tie for sixth all-time at the Mount in career singles wins with Phil Holliday (44-47, 2001-05).  Mostowtt is also 41-49 all-time at the Mount in doubles play, moving into sixth on the school's all-time individual doubles wins list.

Record Breakers:  The Mount's No. 3 doubles team of Thad Mostowtt and Taylor Place has broken the school single-season record for doubles team victories.  The duo is 15-5 this season, breaking the old mark of 13 wins set by Drew Arbeiter and Phil Holliday (13-7, 2004-05).

Rookies Shining:  Freshmen Matthew Blake, Taylor Place and Mike Salomon have bolstered the Mount's lineup this season.  Salomon is playing at No. 2 singles and leads the Mount in singles wins this season (16-7).  Blake is playing at No. 6 singles and is an impressive 14-3 on the season while Place is playing at No. 5 singles with a 13-8 mark in 2009-10.  The trio has combined for a 43-18 record in singles action on the year.

For Comparisons Sake:  The Mount men's team is 11-6 this season in dual matches, marking the most wins by a Mount team since the 2005-06 squad went 13-12.  The five-match win streak is the longest since the 2006-07 team opened the year with a 5-0 record.
