EMMITSBURG, Md. – Maggie O’Connell (Hagerstown, Md.) won two events to lead the Mount St. Mary’s women's swimming team in the Mount first-ever home competition against Loyola and Sacred Heart on Saturday.
O’Connell won the 200 IM with a time of 2:33.58 and then took the next event, the 200 fly with a time of 2:31.54.
Paige Chenet (Berwyn, Pa./Conestaga) also took home a first-place finish in the 50 free, the fourth event on the day and the first win for the Mount its own facility. The freshman also finished third in the 200 back (2:39.62). Fellow freshman Kate Ansman (Long Island, N.Y./Sachem East) earned a third-place standing in the 200 free (2:18.54).
The 200 free relay team of Ansman, Katherine Brengel (Westbury, N.Y./Holy Trinity), Katie Fives (Silver Spring, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and Katie Kelliher (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) posted a third-place finish (2:01.64) in the final event of the afternoon.
The home meet opened with Loyola taking first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 2:16.12. Along with the three competing schools, close to 100 people came to watch the first swim meet in Emmitsburg.
The Mountaineers return to action at the Randolph-Macon Invitational on Dec. 1.
